Rebooting My So Called Web Blog Life
The title of the blog means learning from experience, sometimes from negative ones.
That has summed things up for me over the past eight months.
It goes back longer, actually. I guess it's closer to 20 months, but the reality has hit me over the last eight.
I lost my job back on June 30, 2011. Actually, I was officially terminated on June 30, 2010 with my last date of work being June 30, 2011.
Summarily dismissed under the guise of a restructing of the department I worked in. But I was told that it wasn't personal, and it wasn't because I did a bad job. It was a business decision.
Right. And the fact that I never had any kind of an established relationship with my "supervisor" had nothing to do with my being eliminated. The fact that I was dislocated from everyone else within the division, five miles from his office, and only met with him alone or with my co-worker (who was also laid off) six times in the two years we worked under him had nothing to do with me being shown the door.
It would, of course, be ludicrous to think otherwise.
And so I find myself on the outskirts of my profession, a veritable wraith within higher education, unable to secure full-time employment as I live in a state that doesn't totally value higher education to begin with (at least in the traditional sense) and unable to find a job, really, of any kind.
Needless to say, I have some pent up anxiety that I need to release.
So I turn to a blog once again to fill the void of the days alone.
Unlike my previous personal blogging adventures, I actually plan to stick with this. The old blog was called "Sports...and other stuff," but I didn't want to simply resurrect that one.
This one will probably go in a similar direction as that one, covering little bits of pop culture, both low and high brow, some politics, and a lot of sports not related to college football.
The reason I pull college football out separately is because I spend enough time writing about that sport on various sites around the web (which I will list in the sidebar when I get around to updating that). However, I'll probably also post pictures here, and maybe even some audio if I get so inclined and motivated. Consider this a multimedia experiment this time around.
So I'm hanging my shingle out once again. And continuing to learn the hard way....
