Nostalgia Is Big These Days
So a few months ago, I was contacted by someone who wanted to buy my previous domain. I wasn't really writing at that point, so I decided to sell it. He made a more than generous offer, so I took the cash and used it to make for a pretty good holiday season (and trip to Orlando).
But as usual, I get bitten by the bug to write and talk. So I bought a new domain, linked my blog to it and am giving it a go.
However, instead of sticking with the title of "The Grand Designs" (which probably made me sound like an interior decorator or a graphic artist), I decided to go to the dustbin of history and pull out the title of the column I started 20 years ago this September.
My column, which ran for three years in college, was called, "Out of Left Field."
I wrote about relationships, pop culture (at the time), campus life and campus issues, sports...basically, whatever I wanted. I had carte blanche to write 500-600 words on whatever I felt like as long as I made my deadline.
Now granted, the biggest issue I've had lately is the making a deadline thing. Especially when it's a project like this, which I do for fun and not profit.
When I decided to come back to this, though, I was adamant that I was going to write for fun and write when I felt like it. Obviously, there are differences between 19 year old me and 39 (!) year old me (and I'm not just talking about my waistline). Some of those are probably going to come to light as I walk through this journey.
As usual, I have no idea what the destination is going to be. But I hope it's a fun ride.
