2014 Holiday Countdown Song: White Christmas by Bing Crosby
Moving to Las Vegas required a bit of a sacrifice that I
am not sure that I am completely saddened by.
Living here in the desert, the odds of having an actual
White Christmas are slim to none.
Two days ago, a couple of our local news outlets were
reminiscing about the fact that in 2008, we had 3.5 inches of snow in central
Las Vegas and about 8-10 inches in Henderson, where I live.
I remember that my kid got to play in the snow at his
preschool for a few minutes.
He desperately wants it to snow. He wants to go sledding.
And while I guess I can understand the enthusiasm because it is such a foreign
concept to him, I find it hard to be that excited by the concept.
I’ve admitted before that one of the things I miss about
living out here is that we don’t really have seasons; it tends to be
murderously hot for about 6 months out of the year, wet and rainy for about
three weeks sporadically throughout the year, and then five months of mild
weather.
The window for winter, or rather the opportunity for a
White Christmas here in Nevada is quite slim.
But I guess when you’re seven, you’re always hoping for a
chance to have a Christmas be white.
